| Introduction
The Granja-Escuela (Farm-School) opened in the autumn of 1999. It´s purpose is to complement the education received by pupils in the course of traditional school activities. The activities and facilities are intended for children from 3 to 16 years old, who are split into groups of 10-15 according to their age, each group being guided by a monitor. The ideal capacity of our installations is between 50 and 60 children for visits of several days´duration, and up to 100 for a day trip. The activities of our granja escuela are focussed in bringing a child closer to the rural world, in a fun and constructive environment, learning through direct participation about the work and life of a farm. The farm activities are complemented by many sporting and manual activities (workshops).
The objective of the activities which we offer is to bring the participant closer to nature, animals, plants, the cycles of nature and production processes, in an atmosphere of adventure in which creativity is stimulated through teamwork and individual efforts. |
| Facilities The Rural Youth Hostel is a newly-constructed building with 800 square metres distributed over two floors. On the first floor are four large dormitories, divided into two wings for girls and boys, with a large bathroom for each one. Furthermore, in the upper part of each wing there is a room for the monitors or companions of the children, with en suite bathroom, so that the children are never without a caring eye. On the ground floor we find the kitchen, the dining hall, two bathrooms and the administration office. The building is equipped with central heating and complies with health and safety regulations. Also there is a camping zone in which are two large tents equipped with beds and shelving, as well as their own showers and toilets, with a capacity of forty children.
SPORTING AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES We have devoted an area of 200 square metres to stables for 6-8 horses with a riding school. Amongst our sporting facilities number a swimming pool, a pitch for football and other games, a climbing wall, a death slide, an archery range and ample open land to practice other open-air activities. Being, as we are, only 4km from the sea, we organize week-long sailing courses with specialized monitors who hold diplomas and certificates from the "Federación de Vela" (Sailing Association). |
| Board The pupils are catered for "Full-Board", which includes breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. All the meals are prepared by appropriately qualified personnel who belong to the business. The meals are balanced and provide the vitamins, proteins and calories that the children need, taking into account their age and the physical activities in which they shall participate during their stay. |
| Insurance The Granja Escuela has all the insurance necesary (UAP insurance company) to cover its civil responsability, fires, accidents, etc. |
| Medical
Services In both Calpe (2km) and Benissa (6km) there are Health Centres where doctors and medical staff can be found every day of the week.

Clothing
The children must dress themselves adequately for a trip into the country, with light and comfortable clothing. It is imperative that they bring sporting footware, and strongly advised that they should bring a cap or hat and sun-screen. If they wish to bathe themselves in the swimming pool, they must bring a swimming costume, towel, and sandals or flip-flops. |
